Checked my mail today on my way out to lunch and what did I find but my very first rejection from Zoetrope: All-Story, a magazine run by one Francis Ford Copola.
It's actually kind a funny little letter they sent. It's more of a card than a letter. About two inches wide and seven high with their logo on top. What it said was:
Dear Colin Ferm : Thank you for submitting your manuscript, "Ayla Athena" to Zoetrope: All-Story. We appreciate your interest in the magazine and regret that we're unable to use your story.
They also add a "best regards" but no name to the editors.
Why is this funny?
See the above letter? Where it's underlined is was a space about an inch long, also underlined, where my name and the name of the story was penned in. I love form rejections!
So, after ninety-five days, I finally have my very first rejection from this magazine. Tragically, it is also the eighth rejection for Ayla Athena...
Oh... poor, poor Ayla.
Anyway... This is also my fifty-eighth rejection, my twenty-fourth this year. And for those of you not keeping track, that means I'm 0-58. That's right, not a single one has said yes yet.
Ah... sigh.
On the plus side, I finally got back to writing yesterday and cranked out 2,500 very respectable words on my novel. So... here's hoping that this works out, no?
Also, I have one piece that still remains on an editor's desk. It's been out since early-May, so we'll see. But, keep your fingers crossed.
Until then, kids.
