I thought I was done for the day. I'd all ready written about a rejection I received from Strange Horizons today and I thought that was it.
But no. Neo-Opsis Science Fiction Magazine proved to me that a rejection can come at any time, regardless of what may have flown in earlier in the day.
Crazy, right?
Not that I'm complaining. They were very, very nice about it. Check it out:
We received your story submission, "Ayla Athena", on April 6th, 2008. "Ayla Athena" is the 4189th submission received by Neo-opsis Science Fiction Magazine. "Ayla Athena" does not fit our needs, but thank you for giving us the chance to consider it. I've attached my copy of the story to this email, because I yellow highlighted a few places where a space was missing and one spot where a word was repeated. The story didn't do it for me, but another publisher may find it to their liking.
That's very nice. And after a brief twenty-four days.
But one thing? Four thousand, one hundred and eighty-nine submissions? Fuck me!
The last time I submitted was a year ago and a little more than a thousand less. That's what I call a fucking workload, my friends. A goddamn workload.
So! After a mere three and a half hours, we're now up to forty-eight rejections. I only have one more out because I've been slacking but I promise I'll get that number up again. After all, the Fiftieth Rejection Party is right around the corner if we do this right.
Wow. I'm actually kind of excited. I don't know why...
Take it easy, kids.
