So two interesting things happened recently. And I say interesting because it's interesting to me. If it's not to you, then, well... why are you even reading this, chump?
The two interesting things are, one, I signed up for Netflix and, two, in the process I've gotten way into The Wire.
Netflix is okay. I have nothing really great or terrible to say about it. I mean, if you don't have to see a movie right now then it is fine. But if you do, go find a freak'n video store because Netflix will drive you crazy.
The Wire, on the other hand, is fucking amazing. Not only has the first season shown how retarded the drug war is and how, in "fighting" it, we've given up so many civil liberties but that the police themselves aren't really interested. If it went on and no one got killed or there wasn't the attendant crime, they wouldn't even care. At the end of the day, it's like anything else. They're okay with the perception that they're doing something if even they aren't actually do anything.
So, I ordered season one through four off of Amazon and they promised to deliver it by today. I paid to have it delivered today. But it's twenty after four and it still isn't here. And I'm really beginning to wonder. But I also had three new discs from Netflix to expect. So, even though I stood outside and the delivery guy didn't come, I knew the mail was already here.
And inside the mailbox? A rejection! Number forty-four, as a matter of fact.
Let me tell you, the editor at Fantasy & Science Fiction is a fucking machine. He's able to crank through those submissions like no one I've ever heard. In a grand total of four days, he was able to reject Environments, giving it its third thus far.
Now, sure, he sent the same old form letter but his speed is what I appreciate. Hell, I assume everything's going to be rejected anyway. I'd just prefer to get it sooner than later.
Anyway, this makes rejection number forty-four. I have five still out, one at IGMS that I keep promising will come in any day now but I'm beginning to wonder otherwise at this point.
It's also interesting to note that I've got fourteen submissions so far this year. In 2006 I had only sixteen and 2007 saw only three more than that. So this means that I'm on track for fifty-six submissions this year alone if I keep up this pace.
I'm also at ten rejections thus far, compared to fourteen in 2006 and twenty in 2007. So I may double my rejection total also.
Does it count as a streak if you're losing? I don't know...
Have a great weekend, kids. Updates to come as I get them.
