The year is over. And what a year it's been, people. It's been rejection after rejection after... well.. you get it.
I have no idea who reads this stupid thing. If anyone. But I figure if any of you happen to be trying something similar then what's happened for me this year might be encouraging or discouraging, depending upon your outlook on life, etc. I'm hoping that if you're a blooming sci-fi writer, you'll be discouraged. The simple fact is, there is enough competition without adding any... you hear me chump? But if you're a musician or whatever, well... buck up, pal. We all go through it.
Ya, know?
A few notes about the rejection summary. Firstly, I didn't include all of the magazines because single rejections listed individually just looks spiteful. Secondly, there are stories submitted in 2006 that didn't get rejected until 2007. Hence the reason I have more rejections than submissions this year.
So here it is, 2007:
- New Stories: 10
- Total Submissions: 19
- Total Rejections: 23
- Rejections By Publication:
- Abyss & Apex: 5
- Strange Horizons: 4
- IGMS: 4
- Interzone: 2
- Rejections By Story:
- They Who Cast The First Stone: 1
- Iowa State Police: 3
- The Three Lives Of Slugger Joe: 1
- Ayla Athena: 3
- Communication: 2
- Drug Enforcement: 4
- Rugged Individualists: 2
- Rebellion: 1
- Iowa State Police: 3
- Environments: 2
- Skin: 1
- Total (Linear) Time Out For Rejection: 770 days
- Total Acceptances: 0
You like that last line, right? Sexxy, isn't it? Oh yeah. I know it is.
With any luck, I'll keep my streak up next year and have twice as many rejections as this year without any change in that last one. How cool would that be?
Right...
I'm going to go cry now.
