Abyss & Apex got back to me after 54 days to say thanks but no thanks to my story Rugged Individualists. Actually, what they said was:
It was well received here, but after some thought we have decided not to accept it for publication.
This is pretty much their standard rejection letter, or at least the standard rejection letter that I get. They did add:
I hope you'll consider us again...
Which is nice of them. As I've said before, they responded really well to another one of my stories and I figured my best chance for publication was with them but... who knows? I'll continue submitting... I just wish I had a little more information on why it wasn't accepted. Considering that I broke up with my girlfriend, some good news or, at least, some good feedback would be really really welcome about now.
Could it be because I don't have many female characters in my stories?
I don't know.
At this point, I have no idea what anyone wants.
I picked up a collection of sci-fi stories called The New Space Opera and it was the most boring piece of shit I've ever read. Man... I hope people aren't looking for crap like that because that was so fucking out there, and I mean every story, that I had no idea what was going on long enough to understand.
My silent prayer is that it's the writing that's holding back my stories and not the content itself. If it's the content, I'm fucked. If it's the writing... well... that can be worked on.
