Worked Out A World Issue
05.26.2007

So... I came up with another "grand" story arc for my world. Basically, it involves an Earth invasion and occupation of the former colonies. Which is good, because I was kind of worried. I'd come up with the original arc a while ago and I was kind of freaking out that it might be a one trick pony once I'd exhausted it.

But it's not.

No, sir.

I've advanced the timeline by about one hundred an fifty years for this new arc. This leaves me with a lot of fill in work to do to do the setup but I'm already on my way there. For instance, I've finally figured out the issue that almost brings the Republican Star Cluster to civil war.

And the answer is.... Federalism!

Yes, sir. The favorite topic for every libertarian. Where federal power ends and "state" power begins.

I needed an almost civil war because the constitution that I've written for the world has a very explicit Posse Comitatus clause. So when the Federal government begins to discuss the idea of granting the president emergency power to send in the Fleet to deal with it, the Fleet balks. This, of course, has repercussions for a character that I've been developing but I needed something plausible to back it up.

Now, I've got it.

That's it. I don't have any new rejections to report. Just wanted to give an update.
